Phil Rodriguez was born at a very early age, and at a still-early-but-not-quite-so-early age, he began studying classical piano. Somewhere along the way he also picked up the trumpet. His family was foolish enough to support him in his musical habits, and at some point he decided to spend the rest of his life playing music. It was all downhill from here. He went to college and earned a degree in jazz trumpet, mostly because burning thousands of dollars in a bonfire was an idea that hadn't occured to him.
After school, Phil began getting himself into all sorts of musical mischief, joining and recording with such absurd musical collectives as the Industrial Jazz Group, The Notorious L.A. Music Scene, Jinsai, and Rhythm Nathan, to name but a few. He has also done plenty of work as a freelance trumpeter, touring all over this fair land of ours as well as other strange lands far across the ocean. Phil joined Alana's band in 2006, well, becuase she wanted him to make a "wah-wah-wah" sound on one song. Eventually she felt sorry enough for him that she let him play on a few other songs as well, and Phil took that inch and ran a mile with it. The rest, as they say, is history.
Phil recently left his cozy, sunny, smoggy L.A. environs and heeded the call to "go east, young man." in search of fewer gigs that pay less money, he picked up and moved to Brooklyn, New York, where he now resides with his computer Earl and his trumpet Ella. His days are spent playing trumpet, writing music, and drinking way too much coffee.
